EΞΩΣΤΡΕΦΕΙΑ ΠΡΟΣΩΠΟΥ
Όσα δεν λέω είναι τόσο καλά κρυμμένα
που ούτε η φαντασία μου δεν θα τα βρει
καταχωνιασμένα μέσα στη φωνή, την κίνηση
στο θαυμασμό για τη ζωή.
Όσα δεν λέω είναι αμαρτίες της αφής
όταν δεν τόλμησα ν’αγγίξω
είναι που λάτρεψα το θαύμα
αποσιώπησα το έγκλημα.
Τόσο καλά το κάλυψα, το ‘θρεψα
και το ενθάρρυνα να γίνει ποίημα
που ούτε η σιωπή που ξέρει να διεισδύει
στου ανείπωτου τα σκοτάδια
δεν σκέφτηκε ποτέ ωα σφραγίσει
ό,τι ποτέ δεν θα πω
ό,τι ποτέ δεν είχα καμιά πρόθεση
να κρύψω.

Tutto ciò che non dico è cosi ben nascosto
che nemmeno la mia immaginazione lo troverà
occultato dentro la voce, il movimento
l’ammirazione per la vita.
Tutto ciò che non dico sono i peccati del tatto
Quando non ho osato sfiorare
allora ho adorato il miracolo
non ho parlato del reato.
L’ho occultato così bene, l’ho nutrito
e l’ho incoraggiato a diventare poesia
che neanche il silenzio che sa addentrarsi
nelle tenebre del non detto
ha mai pensato a sigillare
ciò che non dirò mai
ciò che mai avevo l’intenzione
di nascondere.

Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke was born in 1939 in Athens. Her father was a good friend of Nikos Kazantzakis, who became her god father and encouraged her to publish her first poem at the age of sixteen. She studied foreign languages and literature at the Universities of Nice, Athens and Geneva and become a professional translator from French, English and Russian into Greek. Among her translations there are works of Samuel Beckett, Dylan Thomas, William Shakespeare, Vladimir Mayakovsky and Alexander Poushkin. She has published nearly twenty collections of poetry. In 1962 she was awarded the First Prize for Poetry of the City of Geneva (Prix Hensch). In 1985 she won the Greek National Prize for Poetry for the collection The Suitors and in 2014 she was awarded again the National Prize for her whole work. In 2000 she won The Ourani Foundation Academy of Athens Award. Her poems have been translated into many languages, including Swedish. She has taught at Harvard University, University of Utah, and San Francisco State University. She lives on the island of Aegina during the summer months and in Athens throughout the winter.
Helene Paraskeva è nata ad Atene (Grecia) e ha studiato in Grecia, in Italia e nel Regno Unito. Vive a Roma. Ha pubblicato una raccolta di racconti (Il Tragediometro e altre storie, Faraeditore,2003) e un romanzo (Nell’uovo cosmico,Faraeditore,2006). Ha pubblicato quattro sillogi poetiche in italiano e quattro in greco. Ha pubblicato il dramma storico, Αποξένωση, (2015, Alienazione).Ha tradotto poeti greci e italiani. Ha pubblicato Global Issues in English Literature, (Clitt,2003) un testo interculturale in lingua inglese per il Liceo Linguistico e delle Scienze Sociali. Ha insegnato nel Liceo Linguistico e delle Scienze Sociali. Ha collaborato con la rivista L’Internazionale alla rubrica “Italieni”. Fa parte della “Compagnia delle Poete” di Mia Lecomte.
